Extraction is an action thriller directed by Sam Hargrave that was released in the year 2020. Chris Hemsworth plays the role of Tyler Rake, a mercenary in Bangladesh who is in the service of a crime lord due to his kidnapping of a drug lord’s son.

The film is not likely to be regarded as a defining example of any genre but critics did however appreciate the fact that the film did not feature any obnoxious clichés of genre stylized ‘fighting’. At the same time, Hemsworth was praised and even critics appreciated him for pulling off physically demanding role of Extraction with realistic fights included.

Through Netflix, the film managed to become a commercial success with more than 75 million viewers. In the year 2020, it made history as the most popular movie on Netflix and it was also the reason why a follow-up called Extraction 2 was made available in 2023.
